Last Wednesday a bunch of Stage 3 boys went up to Sydney to play in the Paul Kelly Cup State Finals. It took us about 7 hours to get to Sydney. When we got there we went to the SCG (Sydney Cricket Ground) for a tour of the Sydney Swans facilities and the ground. We saw the Swans premiership trophies, the changing rooms, the Coaches' offices, the gym and we got to walk up the Paul Kelly Race and out onto the ground.
After the tour we had to drive across the city out to Parklea where our lodge was. We had pizza for dinner and were sent to bed early because we had a big day ahead of us.
When we woke up the next day it was already hot so we knew it was going to be a hard day of footy. We got to the ground at Blacktown International Sports Park (GWS Home ground) and all the schools lined up for the national anthem.
Our first game was on the main ground against Camden South. It was a tough start for us, but it was a good start for the MPS boys, winning by 13 points. The win gave us a good lift for the next couple of games.
Our next game was against Henschke who beat us by 13 points. Our final game was against Finley, who came third in the AFL State Knockout this year, in howling wind and 29 degree heat. We tried our best and it was our best game, even though we lost by four goals. The boys would like to thank luke, Gary, Ken, Stephanie, Robyn and Gus and Mr Morris for taking the boys up and a special thank you to Luke for his coaching.
