Driving and parking
The start and end of the school day are busy times for pedestrians and drivers outside schools.
When driving and parking near our school, please:
- ensure you park safely in school zones
- follow speed signs
- do not make U-turns or 3-point turns outside the school.

School zones
As part of our ongoing efforts to ensure the safety of children and the community, Bega Valley Shire Council is reminding parents and carers of the importance of complying with parking regulations around school zones. Unfortunately, non-compliance with these regulations has been a persistent issue, putting the safety of the children at risk.
School zone parking enforcement is crucial for these reasons:
- Child Safety: Parking outside schools can be chaotic, and the presence of cars can distract drivers and pedestrians, increasing the risk of accidents
- Congestion: Non-compliant parking can lead to congestion, making it difficult for parents and children to safely enter and exit school grounds.
To ensure a safer and more enjoyable experience for everyone, please follow these simple steps:
• Adhere to designated parking areas: Park only in designated school zone parking bays or follow the instructions of signs indicating permitted parking areas.
• Obey speed limits: Reduce your speed to 40 km/h or less when driving within school zones.
• Be aware of pedestrian crossing areas: Be cautious when approaching pedestrian crossing areas and stay vigilant while passing through.
• Respect designated pick-up and drop-off areas: Use designated pick-up and drop-off areas to minimise congestion and ensure safe entry and exit from your vehicle.
• Consequences of Non-Compliance: Understand that the road rules are in place to ensure safety, always choose to do the right thing, fines are expensive and can cause stress. If everyone does the right thing, no one receives a fine.
We urge all parents and carers to take responsibility for their actions and ensure their safety awareness while dropping off or picking up their children from school.
If you have any questions or concerns about school zone parking enforcement, please contact Bega Valley Shire Council https://begavalley.nsw.gov.au/services/road-safety-working-towards-zero-together
