Presentation Day Pride
Presentation Day was another spectacular event at Merimbula Public School in 2013. Following a classy opening by the school's Recorder Ensemble, an Acknowledgement of Country led by students T'Leah Ahmat and Mackenzee Russell, Student Representative Council Leaders Madison Rixe and Ewan Jones introduced a range of special guests, the Principal and teachers to present awards.
Awards were presented to students who demonstrated high academic growth or achievement in literacy, numeracy, other academic areas or who demonstrated excellence in citizenship. Students from each class were presented these awards.
Special awards were also presented, including trophies, medallions and scholarships, to students who excelled in sport, music, performing arts, consistent achievement and citizenship. Awards were also presented to encourage students to continue to strive to be the best that they can be.
The Senior and Junior Vocal Groups also performed on the day, sharing some lively songs and messages of happiness. They were followed by a ballet quartet and solo ballet performance by talented Year 4 student Aria Little.
"The staff of Merimbula Public School are so proud of the achievements of all of our students, our staff and of our school in general" shared Principal Michelle Hulme. "We have had many deserving award winners this year who have been recognised for their achievements and awarded with book vouchers and prizes with thanks to our supportive local businesses, clubs and charity organisations". The school thanked the Merimbula RSL, Mumbulla Foundation, Lions Club, Rotary Club, Sawtell White, Campbell Page, Merimbula Public School P&C, Merimbula Surf Shop, the Sharing Books Club, the Day View Club, Booktique, Merimbula Newsagency, Bendigo Bank, the Illawarra Mutual Building Society, Horizon Credit Union and the Robin Hood Club.
Another award that was presented at the Presentation Day Ceremony was to Mrs Joanne Miller. Mrs Miller was one of only a dozen parents recognised across the state this year as Public School Parent of the Year. She received her framed award from Mrs Hulme on behalf of Paul Morris, Director of Public Schools for the Far South Coast, in recognition of her: dedication to the school and P&C, volunteering in the canteen, reading with students and for coordinating endless fundraising activities that have seen the school implement new learning support programs, purchase Interactive Whiteboards for every room and purchase dozens of iPads so that there is a set for each grade. Mrs Miller is the second parent, and 17thstate or regional award winner, to receive recognition for Merimbula Public School in the last 5 years – which is such a great achievement for any school, and our school - Merimbula Public School, our local public school!
